This course is aimed specifically towards games design as a foundation degree. The course explores a range of professional skills which will be needed within the games industry. This means that the equipment that is used within the course is expected for the student to already have, considering that it is what they want to do in the future which consists of items such as: drawing equipment, PC/ Laptop, drawing tablets, etc. You will study games design and explore the professional skills necessary to pursue employment in the Games industry. You will study in MediaCity and engage in work based experience relevant to your programme of study. After the courser is complete, students may pursue a career in Games Design or complete a BA top up/apply for level 6 entry onto a cognate degree in Games Design such as the level 6 Computing and Games Design programme offered by the University of Salford.

Personally, I find this course appealing as it is close by to where I live, I learn a wider range of techniques and skills as it focuses on everything around games and it's something that I find quite interesting and it would seem that I would love to have a job that revolved around it in the future. I think that I would enjoy this couse as I would keep learning about the many different aspects located around the whole of games design and I would be able to adapt and find out what I enjoy best and what I am best at doing. I think that this is quite important as I want to enjoy doing my job in the future and I want to also have a profession in my job where I can produce great work that will impress the public.

Game Art

Duration
3 Years
Qualification
BA (Hons)

This course focuses on art used within video games, which is something that I enjoy a lot as I love drawing characters and I love creating my own characters using random ideas and techniques. Students that participate in this course are taught how to use all the software professionally and properly, including lots of different techniques and methods to create the best work. This includes 3D modelling, level creation, texture creation, academic skills, and drawing skills. In the second year of the course, skills that are more advanced such as level creation and modelling are explored and developed in a detailed way of where the student learns the best ways to create the certain aspects. However, in the third year of this course, the student will create an original major project independently using the wide range of skills they have learnt over the previous years.

I think that this course would be pretty ideal as I would be able to develop my art skills further and learn new ways and techniques of how to improve creating art and building models, which is something that I personally enjoy doing. I also think that this would be also useful for my portfolio as I can show the skills that I can use and the work I have previously created.

Media and Communication Studies

Duration
3 Years
Qualification
BA (Hons)

This course offers a lot, which revolves around media based topics and subjects. The department is very large with all the equipment you would need for the course, where the PC's are specifically built for utilising creative skills for digital media, production and editing. The course will be run with the department of Theatre, film and television studies which I think is great because the student will be getting information from all the correct department themselves which means that the work will be more easy to understand. The Media and Communication Studies Degree enables you to combine the traditional and the new, with a special and distinctive digital media focus. You will develop dynamic insights into the nature of interactions between media texts, media audiences and media producers.  The progress achieved is usually checked with continuous assessment than on traditional written exams, reflecting the progressive nature of our module content. After the course, I would be set up for a degree in Media and Communication Studies will prepare you for such career options as programme researcher for various broadcasting media, floor manager, camera operator, sound technician, runner, producer and director. It will also be useful in areas such as teaching, research, marketing, media planning, events organisation, the computing industries, and public relations.
